Bjørn Tomren
The Sound Lounge, SM1 1NU , [Venue Details]One of the most gifted voices in Norway makes his Sound Lounge debut
Bjørn Tomren (born 1981) is a Norwegian singer-songwriter, vocalist, and composer from Tomrefjord.
He is known for his extraordinary musical range, unusual vocal techniques (including yodelling and overtone singing), and surreal storytelling style. Before emerging as a distinctive solo artist, he gained attention as one half of the eccentric duo Polkabjørn & Kleine Heine, who toured widely and even supported a-ha. The duo were also the subject of the documentary The Art of Yodeling.
Tomren released his debut solo album, Bad Science Fiction, in 2019. Described as “dystopian sci-fi country,” the album received strong reviews and was praised as “songs in the americana tradition, heavily laden with resonant instruments and pressing atmospheres.” He followed it with The Astronomer’s Dream in 2023, and in 2025 released Oumuamua, a collaboration with producer and musician HP Gundersen, further cementing his reputation as one of Norway’s most original musical voices.
